PURPOSE

This document provides guidance for end users to configure or update shortcut keys (e.g., speed dial, extension, or BLF) on their Wildix Workforce desk phone. It also explains Busy Lamp Field (BLF), which helps you see a colleague’s phone status at a glance.

SCOPE

Any user who wants to personalize function keys on a Wildix Workforce hardphone for quick dialing or presence monitoring.

NOTE: WHAT IS BLF?

  • BLF stands for Busy Lamp Field. It’s a feature that monitors a colleague’s extension so you can see whether they’re available, on a call, or if their phone is ringing.
  • LED Indicators: Next to the BLF key, you’ll usually see a small light:
    • Green (steady): The person is idle (available).
    • Red (steady): The person’s line is in use (they’re on a call).
    • Blinking Red: Their phone is ringing (an incoming call).
  • One-Touch Dial: Press the BLF key to call that extension. This also helps you transfer calls to a monitored extension more easily.

PROCEDURE

1. Access the Phone Menu

  1. Press the “Menu” Button: On most Workforce models, it’s a physical key labeled Menu or Settings.
  2. Navigate to “Features,” “Function Keys,” or “Key Programming”: Menu names vary, but look for an option referring to programmable keys.

2. Select a Key to Edit

  1. Highlight a Key: Use the phone’s arrow keys to pick which programmable key you want to configure (e.g., Key 1, Key 2).
  2. Press “OK” or “Select”: This opens the edit screen for that key.

3. Choose the Shortcut Type

Depending on your phone’s firmware, you could see multiple shortcut types:

  • BLF (Busy Lamp Field)**: Monitors a colleague’s extension for availability and calls them with one press.
  • Speed Dial: Quickly calls a saved number (internal or external) without monitoring status.
  • Extension: Similar to speed dial but specifically for internal extension dialing.

Highlight BLF if you want to see that user’s status and dial them instantly. Otherwise, pick Speed Dial or Extension for simpler one-touch calls.

4. Enter the Extension or Number

  1. Type the Colleague’s Extension: For BLF or internal speed dial, this is the user’s extension (e.g., 123).
  2. Add a Label (If Prompted): Enter a short name (like “John Sales”). Use the keypad’s letters or any on-screen keyboard method your phone supports.

5. Save and Exit

  1. Press “Save,” “OK,” or “Apply”: Follow the phone’s on-screen instructions to confirm.
  2. Return to the Home Screen: Press Exit or Back until you see the main display.

6. Test the New Shortcut (BLF Behavior)

  1. Look for the Light: If you set it as BLF, you should see a small indicator:
    • Green: They’re available.
    • Red: They’re on a call.
    • Blinking: Their phone is ringing.
  2. Press the Key: You can call them directly by pressing this button—no need to dial their extension manually.
